La Maison Adam

Nouvelle étape en Pays Basque avec la mythique maison Adam. Les Luziens virent leur ville prendre une ampleur certaine lorsque Louis XIV vint y épouser Marie-Thérèse d’Autriche infante d’Espagne le 9 juin 1660. La porte de l’église Saint-Jean-Baptiste, franchie à sa sortie de l’église par le couple royal fut murée 3 ans après la cérémonie, quoique l’inscription gravée dans le mur donne à croire que la condamnation de la porte a été réalisée juste après le mariage… une Autre Maison de St Jean de Luz y gagna ses titres de noblesse… La Maison Adam avec ces fameux « véritables macarons de Saint Jean de Luz »… il est dit que la mère du roi succomba à la finesse de ces macarons crée l’année du mariage royal… Aujourd’hui, la maison est gérée par Jean-Pierre Telleria Adam et son épouse Christine Telleria Adam tous deux pâtissiers de génération en génération et passionnés par leur travail. Adam est, bien entendu, d’abord connu pour ses macarons mais vous auriez bien tort de vous priver des chocolats, pains et autres gourmandises et produits de l’épicerie.

Maison Adam
Another tale from the Basque region: this time that of the legendary Maison Adam. When Louis XIV came to Saint-Jean-de-Luz to marry Maria Theresa of Spain, Archduchess of Austria, on 9 June 1660, the town started attracting somewhat more attention. The door of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, through which the royal couple left the building, was walled up three years after the ceremony (even though the inscription engraved on the wall suggests that the door stopped being used right after the wedding). Meanwhile, another Saint-Jean-de-Luz family was earning the royal seal of approval: the Maison Adam, with its famous “authentic Saint-Jean-de-Luz macaroons”. It is said that the king’s mother fell in love with these delicate macaroons, created in the same year that the royal wedding took place… Today, the house is run by Jean-Pierre Telleria Adam and his wife, Christine Telleria Adam, both of whom come from families of confectioners and are utterly devoted to their work. Adam is best known for its macaroons – naturally – but you’d be a fool to miss out on the shop’s chocolates, bread and other treats and products.
