L’Hôtel Raya à Panarea

Connaissez-vous les Iles Eoliennes ? Il s’agit d’un chapelet d’îles volcaniques se trouvant au nord de la Sicile en Italie. Parmi les 7 îles principales, vous trouverez Stromboli, connue pour abriter le célèbre volcan portant le même nom. Mais ici, je vais vous parler plus précisément d’une autre île, Panaréa, où est implanté à flan de volcan L’hôtel Raya (raie).

Petite île de la mer Tyrrhénienne, Panarea, 3,4 km², est située entre Lipali et Stromboli. Malgré un écosystème riche en oliviers, vignes, câpriers ou encore figuiers, l’île vit principalement du tourisme de luxe.

Le Raya de Myriam Beltrami et Paolo Tilche est, depuis les années 60-70, un hôtel atypique s’étageant sur le flanc de l’île. On y arrive par bateau, hydroptère ou hélicoptère. La réception se trouve à 2 minutes du seul quai de l’île et s’appelle le Raya Peppe Maria. Puis, le moyen de locomotion locale, la voiturette de golf, vous transportera vers votre chambre. Celle-ci peut se trouver au Raya Basso, au centre du village, ou bien au Raya Alto qui se trouve à flanc de colline où les 30 chambres ouvrent sur la magnifique vue du Stromboli.

Le bio prôné par madame Beltrami prend toute sa place dans les chambres de l’hôtel. Les tissus, les cotons, les savons, les serviettes, les platres, les peintures tout ou presque est certifié bio. La télévision ne fait pas partie des meubles des chambres, la simplicité est de mise et cela est très bien. Quand vous parlez avec la propriétaire des lieux, vous comprenez à quel point elle est extrèmement attentive à la préservation de son patrimoine insulaire.

Vous pourrez profitez de la piscine à l’eau salée et de la piscine d’eau chaude qui est puisée naturellement chaude à 90 m sous terre. Selon Myriam, cette eau possède des vertues similaires à celles de l’eau de Lourdes.

Le Raya étant ouvert en saison estivale comme la majorité des restaurants et autres commerces de l’île, le séjour est donc à programmer entre juin et septembre.

The Hotel Raya in Panarea:
Have you heard of the Aeolian Islands? They make up a an archipelago situated off the north coast of Sicily. One of the seven main islands is Stromboli, known for the famous volcano of the same name. But today I want to talk to you about another island, Panarea, whose volcanic slopes are home to the Hotel Raya.
With an area of 3.4km², Panarea is a small island located in the Tyrrhenian Sea between Lipali and Stromboli. Despite an ecosystem rich in olive trees, grapevines, caper bushes and fig trees, the island’s main source of revenue is luxury tourism.
The Raya, dating back to the 60s, is owned by Myriam Beltrami and Paolo Tilche, and is not your run-of-the-mill hotel. It is built on the edge of the island, so you need to take a boat, hydrofoil or helicopter to get there. The reception, called the Raya Peppe Maria, is located two minutes from the only dock on the island. From there, you will be taken by golf buggy (the local form of transport) straight to your hotel room, located in the Raya Basso in the centre of the village or even in the Raya Alto on the side of the hill, where the 30 rooms on offer have an amazing view of Stromboli.
Myriam Beltrami’s passion for all things organic sets the tone in the hotel rooms.The fabrics, cottons, soaps, towels, sculptures and even the paintings are almost all certified organic. The rooms are TV-free, in keeping with the refreshing focus on simplicity. When talking with the owner, you understand how important it is for her to preserve the heritage
of her island.
The hotel features a salt-water swimming pool and a hot water pool, created by drawing hot water from natural sources 90 metres underground. According to Myriam, the water possesses special properties similar to the water at Lourdes.
Like most of the restaurants and businesses on the island, the Raya is only open in the summer, so book your holiday for between June and September.
