Si aujourd’hui le Parc des Princes (quataris) est l’antre et le repère des supporters et les joueurs de football du PSG, il fut une époque où les rugbymen y foulaient également la pelouse. J’ai d’ailleurs moi-même assisté à plusieurs matchs du tournoi des 5 nations qui se tenait dans ce stade. C’était bien avant l’inauguration du Stade de France en 1998 et l’intégration de l’Italie dans le tournoi (en 2000).
En 1897 le « Stade-vélodrome du Parc des Princes » est inauguré. Il sera rénové en 1932 puis en 1972. Le stade actuel date de cette époque et peut accueillir jusqu’à 45 000 spectateurs. Il est, en partie, l’œuvre de l’architecte Roger Taillibert. Des travaux d’agrandissement du stade sont envisagés par la ville de Paris et les nouveaux propriétaires du PSG. La Parc fut réputé pour son ambiance quasi unique en France.
Depuis 1988 et le show de Mickael Jackson, le stade accueille ponctuellement des concerts comme ceux de U2 en 1997 et de Bruce Springsteen en 2008. Personnellement j’ai pu assister aux parc des princes au concert de Johnny pour ces 60 ans en 2003. Voici la photo du concert de Métallica en 2004 où je n’étais pas… N’oublions pas les Rolling Stones qui ont fait chanter le sud du 16eme arrondissement en 1990, au grand dam de certaines associations qui souhaiteraient voir le Parc des Princes disparaitre ou ne servir qu’aux matchs de football.
Tour of the Stadiums no 4: Parc des Princes:
Although the (Qatari) Parc des Princes is the haunt and landmark of the supporters and players of Paris Saint Germain today, there was a time when rugby players also set foot on its grass. Moreover, I personally watched several matches of the Five Nations Championship which were held in this stadium. This was well before the inauguration of the Stade de France in 1998 and Italy being included in the Championship (in 2000).
In 1897, the “Stade-Vélodrome du Parc des Princesˮ was inaugurated. It was renovated in 1932 and then again in 1972. The current stadium dates from this period and can accommodate 45,000 spectators. It was partly designed by the architect Roger Taillibert. The City of Paris and the new owners of Paris Saint Germain plan to carry out work to extend the stadium. The Parc is renowned for its atmosphere which is unique in France.
Since Michael Jackson’s concert there in 1988, the stadium has played host to concerts from time to time such as those of U2 in 1997 and Bruce Springsteen in 2008. I personally was able to attend the concert at the Parc des Princes to celebrate Johnny Hallyday’s 60th birthday in 2003. Here is the photo of the Metallica concert which I was unable to attend in 2004… Let’s not forget the Rolling Stones which rocked the south of the 16th arrondissement in 1990, much to the dismay of some
associations which would prefer that the Parc des Princes no longer existed or solely be used for football matches.
